Invisalign may not have an impact on WHAT you eat, but may have more of affect WHEN you eat it. Here, our dentists explain how Invisalign may affect your diet.
Invisalign does not require you to give up your favourite foods, like popcorn which can get stuck in traditional braces.
Instead, you can simply remove your clear aligners to eat and put them back in once you've finished eating and brushed your teeth.
Keeping in mind that you still need to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, you may just want to make some adjustments to your eating schedule.
Skipping The Snacks
If you tend to eat three meals a day and forgo snacks, then Invisalign will fit into your schedule pretty easily. If you tend to snack throughout the day and just have one larger meal at dinnertime, it may require a bit of an adjustment.
Because you need to clean your teeth after each time you eat, snacking requires you to constantly take out your aligners and brush your teeth which can be inconvenient and time consuming.
For this reason, it may be helpful for you to eat fewer, larger meals and snack less throughout the day.
Drinking More Water
You are able to drink cold water with your aligners in.
If you drink coffee, or enjoy a glass of red wine at night, you need to remove your aligners first and be sure to brush your teeth after. Dark, sugary liquids can stain your aligners and hot liquids can warp them.
For this reason, you may find that you'll drink more water during your Invisalign treatment.
