Does Invisalign Treatment Hurt?

Does Invisalign Treatment Hurt?

Invisalign treatment is one of the most comfortable forms of orthodontic treatment, but there will be times during treatment when you will experience soreness. Here’s what to expect!

People with braces typically experience a transition period when they first get them, during which the insides of their mouths are extremely raw and tender as a result of friction with the metal.

Because Invisalign aligners are made of a smooth plastic material, you will experience very little discomfort while your mouth is getting used to them. You may have trouble talking at first, and there may be some minor gum irritation, but that will probably be the worst of it!

Patients with braces also tend to go through an uncomfortable period when they get their braces adjusted. The braces can feel tight and uncomfortable for a time, and create sores from friction in the mouth because they have changed position.

By the same token, you’re likely to feel a bit sore or uncomfortable when you first switch to a new set of Invisalign aligners. This happens approximately every 2 weeks. The new aligners may feel tight, and can create a sensation of pressure on the teeth for a time. This discomfort is normally fades away after a day or two.

Any tightness of discomfort you feel during your Invisalign treatment will be transitory, and can be managed with icepacks and over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen.
